Weekend Update

Here are the warm-ups for this week:

Science: In class today we demonstrated the Coriolis Effect using a record player, and started working on an ocean movement mini-book.  We will continue working on the mini-book in class next week. Your homework for this weekend is to finish the study guide for the hydrology test.

Social Studies: In class today we wrapped up Canadian history.  We watched a video and answered questions. The video questions are on the back of the Hear Ye! Hear Ye! sheet (notebook 12).

 As you watch the video, answer the 14 questions on Notebook 12. Add six notes of your own at the bottom of the page.

There will be a Canada QUIZ on Wednesday ... the quiz covers notebooks 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12.

Thursday

Science: In class today we turned our attention to surface currents.  Homework is to keep working on the study guide for Tuesday's TEST!

Social Studies: In class today we had career classroom guidance with Ms. Jackson.  Homework is to complete the Hear Ye! Hear Ye! sheet.   Write 5 sentences in EACH box  (the top box is on languages and the bottom box is on religions). Use last night's CRCT prep homework to help you. You ONLY have to complete one side!  We will complete the back in class tomorrow.

Wednesday

Science: In class today we shared groundwater/water cycle posters.  There are some great looking projects! I also announced the hydrology test will be NEXT Tuesday, Feb 28. The study guide was passed out in class. Glue the study guide to page 44 in your IAN, and use pages 45 and 46 to write down your answers in COMPLETE sentences.  The study guide is due on Monday.

Social Studies: Today we focused more on the history of Canada.  If you were absent, your only make-up work is the warm-up and the homework (both will be on your clip when you return). Homeworkfor tonight  is CRCT prep. Read and highlight the information on both sides of the page, and answer the multiple choice questions.

Monday

Science: In class today we took notes on density and discussed how deep currents form. Homework for tonight is to FINISH your groundwater project ... it is due tomorrow!! See Friday's post if you need another copy of the directions.

Social Studies: In class today we took a look back at Canada's history. If you did not finish the fill-in notes in class, you took a Canada book home with you to finish tonight.  Homework for everyone is to write 3 Costa's questions about Canada's history. Write one question for each level ... and answer them too!

Literacy:  If you did not finish the Explain Yourself and Take It Further activities for Lesson 3, you need to finish them for homework tonight.

(Long) Weekend Update

Progress reports were sent home today. Please go over your child's progress reports with them, and sign and return the cover sheet.  Remember that progress reports are just a snapshot of your child's grades .. Pinnacle is the easiest way to stay current on your student's progress.

Science: In class today we discussed yesterday's lab stations, and formed a working definition of density. On Tuesday we will continue our density discussions There is no homework this weekend ... but don't forget you have a water cycle/groundwater poster due on Wednesday.  Here are the directions and rubric in case you need them this weekend: Download Water Cycle drawing

Social Studies: In class today we took the Canada map quiz and wrapped up Canada's environmental issues.  Homework is to finish your environmental issues letter.  Here's a copy of the directions:  Download Environmental issues letter

Government AND economic notebooks were passed back in class today. The government notebook has a checklist we used to grade it so you can see exactly where you lost points. Since the economics notebook was so short, I graded it for two things only: the warm-ups and the economics Venn diagram.

 

Thursday

Science: In class today we rotated through several lab stations.  We will talk about these in class tomorrow. Homework for tonight is to finish your questions and summary on your currents Cornell notes.  You should have at lease six questions on the left side of your notes. Make sure you include at least TWO Level Two questions.

Social Studies: In class today we focused on the environmental issues facing Canada. Homework is to study for tomorrow's map quiz!  Look at yesterday's blog post for the list of what you need to study.

Wednesday

Science: In class today we turned our attention to ocean currents. We completed the directed reading for Chapter 14, Section 1, and took Cornell notes on the same section.  Your homework is to finish the Cornell notes ... ONLY the NOTES!! You DO NOT have to do the questions or the summary ... we will talk about that step tomorrow.

Social Studies: In class today we discussed the physical features of Canada, and explored how the location climate and natural resources of Canada affect where people live and how they trade. Homework for tonight is to complete the population density worksheet. Use the graph and map on the front to answer the questions on the back.  Answer in complete sentences!

For your map quiz on Friday, you need to know the five features from today's warm-up, the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes, Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec.

Literacy: Your homework is the lesson 3 vocabulary squares if you did not finish them in class.

Science: In class today we introduced a water cycle/groundwater poster project. This project is due NEXT Wednesday (Feb 22). Social Studies: In class today we focused on the physical features of Canada.   I also announced a MAP quiz for Friday.  Tomorrow in class I will give you the list of what you need to study.

6th Period: Your homework is to finish the travel poster for one of the physical features of Canada. Yes ... you need to color it!

Monday

Science: In class today we finished sharing the Incredible Journey stories, and demonstrated the breakdown of Earth's saltwater and freshwater sources.  Homework for tonight is Be the Teacher.

Social Studies: In class today we started Canada.  We labeled a physical and political map of Canada ... homework is to finish the maps (you SHOULD only have the coloring left to do for homework).  Seventh period ... you ONLY have to finish the physical map!!

Science: In class today we reflected on how Mr. Valentine's talk about global awareness relates to science. We also shared our Incredible Journey stories.  There is no homework this weekend.

Social Studies: Today we took the economics test! There is no homework this weekend ... get ready to start Canada on Monday!
