Week of 4/13-17/09

Monday 4/13/09

Students received information to include in an Acrostic that will be counted as a test grade.  They were given the page numbers to find the information about Populism, Civil Rights, and Events.  From this information list and the reading, students had class time with a partner to work on an Acrostic that included the three topics mentioned above.  If not completed in class, it was to be completed at home and turned in on Tuesday.

Tuesday 4/14/09
Students were given 20 additional minutes to complete the Acrostic.  If they had completed it at the beginning of class, they received a 5 point bonus for doing so.  
We  began a new project which included the students picking a partner.  Each group was given specific page numbers and information that they will be writing questions on using Costa's Level of Thinking.  Students will work on this assignment through Thursday and on Friday, will rotate through each group to answer questions from material different than theirs.  

Wednesday 4/15/09
Students will be working with their partners on the questions from the pages given to them yesterday.

HOMEWORK: Students should have pages 361-451 in their textbooks read by Friday.

Thursday 4/16/09
Continuing with project

Friday 4/17/09
Students will rotate through each group answering questions from the homework pages given on Wednesday.  

Don't forget, next week is CRCT week.

Week of 3/23-27/09

Monday 3/23

The students were given vocabulary to complete at home and read pages 298-309.  The page numbers of the vocabulary were to be included in the definitions.  This was started in class as well as review of their test from last Friday.


STUDENTS ON THE FLORIDA TRIP WILL TAKE THE QUIZ UPON THEIR RETURN ON MONDAY.  THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN THEIR WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY TAKE THEM AND THAT THEY HAVE COME BY FOR THE ASSIGNMENTS.


Tuesday 3/24
Review of vocabulary.  Classes were given paper to make vocabulary fortune tellers.  If not completed in class must be finished for homework.  Review of reading took place and homework was given and could be started in class.  The homework is a worksheet called Reconstruction Plan.

Wednesday 3/25

Review of last night's homework.  Remind students there is a quiz on Friday, sections 1 & 2 of text.  this covers pages 298-311.  Students will review with each other using their vocabulary fortune tellers.  Homework tonight is to complete the worksheet The Aftermath of the Civil War and the Freedman's Bureau.

Thursday 3/26

Review last night's homework and begin discussion on how Southern states felt about the reconstruction.  Student will re-read (read) pages 302-309 and complete questions on Georgia's Response to Reconstruction.  Remember, there is a quiz tomorrow over sections 1 & 2 of chapter 9.

Friday 3/27

Using the Promethean Board, students will design a Venn Diagram making connections and differences between the 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments and sharecropper/tenant farmer system as well as the Black codes and the Ku Klux Klan.

Quiz will be given after the Venn Diagram assignment.

Things to Know for the Test

Below you will find the answers for the study guide and the essay questions you will see on the test.

Study Guide:
1.  Fort Sumter/  Lincoln agreed to send provisions nd ammunition to Frot Sumter.  He did not want to give up control of Federal territory.
2.  conscription: or the drafting of men to serve in the army

8.  Blockade is when the Union ships obstructed all ports that were Confederate to keep then from trading

12.  Stated slaves would be freed if the south didn't surrender within 3 months.  Could surrender from Confederates took place, they could keep the slaves they owned.

13.  North: more supplies, gold, transportation and men to fight as well as factories to make supplies, a developed money system and professional soldiers.
      South:  Held more of an emotional value to what they wanted their life styles to be, fought on own territory so they knew the terrain.

       South:  men were less prepared/trained and there were fewer of them.

The link above is the study guide for Chapter 8 test on Thursday.  The first 6 questions are due as homework for Monday 3/16/09.  If done correctly, it is worth 2 bonus points for the test. The others questions will also be for added bonus points not to exceed 5 bonus points.

Students were also given a pamphlet of Civil War information to help them study and do their study guide. They also received vocabulary words that we discussed and will need to know.  Students will need to read the chapter at home, pages 256-289 of their textbook.

Don't forget to review the factory and factory worker numbers comparing the North to the South.  

Specific battles will be discussed next week and students will have the opportunity to work out successful strategies of battles.

 The above was/is the study guide for the test that was given this past Friday.  I will also attach the test so you can see how it correlated with the test.  For whatever reason, some students did not use the study guide wisely or the notes we had taken in class to help them study for this test.  I am giving each student a chance to earn 10 bonus points to be applied to their test grade if they correctly answer the above questions and have them ready to turn in tomorrow.  I am sorry I can not extend it past tomorrow but this will already be pushing the deadline to have grades
