8th Health - final week

In the final week of class, you will be working a classmates vocabulary puzzle from the Mental Health unit. On Tuesday, you will have a matching quiz on the vocabulary terms you began working with last week. Please be sure your textbook is in class and your folder is present every day. The folder will need to be left in class for a final check of completed work.
Have a fun and healthy summer!

7th Grade Fitness - final week

In Fitness class this week, you will be completing a plan for improving your weakest area of fitness. If any of the end of course assessments have not been completed, those will also need to be done. If all of your assessments are completed and the fitness plan is done, you may be able to use the cardio equipment or the weight machines. You will be told which will be the last day to dress out as well as which day you will turn in your PE lock. Be prepared to take home ALL belongings by Wednesday or Thursday. If your PE lock is missing, please see one of the teachers and look for it. Fees for missing locks will need to be paid before yearbooks or grades are released.
Challenge yourself to continue some sort of fitness workout over the summer. You have learned about all the parts of fitness and know there are many activities you can do to help keep your present level of fitness or even keep improving.

6th Grade Health - last week

Your final homework assignment from the student manual, Choosing the Best Way, is due on Monday, May 18. You will be able to take the manual home this week since we have completed the lessons. The final days in Health class will be spent discussing the mental health lessons and vocabulary. Please be sure your textbook is in class and your folder is present each day. The folders will need to be left in class for a final check of completed work.
Anyone who has not turned in previous homework assignments may turn those in for a reduced grade. If you are not doing the homework, you will be impacting your final average by up to ten points. If any classwork is missing, you may be asked to complete the work during class time while others are involved in a different project.

8th Grade Health

This week will be quite a combination of topics. On Monday, you will be playing the board games that you created last week about Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases. We will complete diseases on Tuesday in order to prepare for the guest speakers from out W.A.I.T. unit who will be visiting on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The boys will be reporting to a room on the 8th grade D wing and the girls will continue meeting in the Health room. I know you will enjoy our guests and will continue to show maturity and respect as they lead your classes for a few days.

Choosing the Best Way

We have begun our Human Growth unit called "Choosing the Best Way." You have received your own student workbooks and it is expected that you fill them out as we discuss each lesson. There will be two homework assignments as part of this unit. Please be responsible and get them completed. You will be continuing in "Choosing the Best Way" all week and when we have completed it, you will be able to take your workbook home. Until then, please leave them in class so you will be able to fill them out as we discuss our topics.

Cardiovascular Fitness

You have received the worksheet on Cardiovascular Fitness and we have engaged in some activities that focus on this part of fitness on the days that we don't lift weights. There will be a short written quiz on this handout on 5/7, this Thursday. This will be the last regular weight-lifting week. The following week we will do some re-testing of the fitness components and have our Mabry Field Days on next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. As we begin to re-do the fitness testing, some of you may see some big changes, and some will see not so obvious changes. Since everyone is working on an individual fitness plan, we can't predict exactly what improvements will be made. Please continue to dress for class in the proper fashion, including changing clothes and wearing socks and sneakers.

6th Grade Health/Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug unit

We started the drug unit last week and will continue with it this week. You are learning some basic information about drug categories and what these drugs can do to the body. You will get a chance to look at the DUI goggles to see a simulation of what someone under the influence of drugs might see. You will be comparing and contrasting three drugs as a culminating activity and having a short quiz at the end of the unit. The quiz will be next week due to the blocking of connection classes this week because of CRCT testing.

7th grade Fitness 4/20-24

This is going to be an odd week since it is CRCT time. We will be blocking our connection classes starting this Tuesday. You will still be working out three times this week and will have a quiz on the principles of fitness at the end of the week. The fitness classes will be longer than usual, therefore, we will be able to work out AND do another activity. Be sure to dress out properly every day. Some of you are not prepared for class because you are taking clothes home in the middle of the week and forgetting to bring them back. Please leave your workout clothes at school all week long, then take them home on Friday and return them on Monday so you are never caught without the proper PE clothes.

8th Health/W.A.I.T. Training

This will be the final week of W.A.I.T. Training and there will be a test at the end of the week. Since it is also CRCT week, we will be blocking our connection classes starting this Tuesday. We will finish comparing the sexually transmitted diseases, look at how marriage can "rock", and look at the success/failure rates for birth control and protection against STD's. Our guest speakers have not confirmed the dates they will visit and it may be after we have completed this unit and moved on to others. It won't matter one bit. You will enjoy them whenever they come and we will stop wherever we are in our studies and make time to have them in class.

8th Grade Health/Homework

Just a reminder that your parent/teen connection homework assignment is due tomorrow, 4/17. You received this on Wednesday and were given instructions on completing this with a parent or guardian. This will be the only homework assignment that will appear on the progress report that goes home at the end of next week. We had a great discussion today as we started learning about the sexually transmitted diseases. We will continue with this topic tomorrow.
