Today we sang the Linking Verb song. Students took notes on their graphic organizers defining the linking verbs complements - predicate nouns/adjectives. We review State of Being verbs (forms of "be") and viewed a PowerPoint on verb complements (see below). We reviewed strategies for how to distinguish between action and linking verbs by substituting "is" or "are" in a sentence. If the sentence makes sense after the verb is replaced, it is a linking verb. We also reviewed the strategies for identifying action verbs and their direct objects (subject,verb,what?). Students engaged in a Promethean Board activity and labeled sentence parts using our strategies: subject, verb type, complement - DO, PN, PA.
