This Week...

...we have been working on a compare and contrast essay. Students were provided with a framed paragraph for an expository essay and a Venn diagram with three comparisons. The essay was to be written as a compare and contrast between elementary school and middle school. As a class, we completed the first comparison: storage of supplies. Students brainstormed other ideas that could be compared between these two levels of school. They then decided which ideas they wanted to use for their second and third comparisons. The next step was to complete the framed paragraph. Now that students have completed these steps, they are using word processing software to prepare a final draft of their composition.

Wednesday

Review subjects and predicates...How NOT to do it! Finding subjects and predicates is EASY if you will follow a few simple steps.
1. Find the verb first.
2. Ask, "Who or What did or is the action of state of  being?"
3. Dont forget to look for helping verbs.
4. Form a simple sentence with those words only. If you cannot visualize a picture, you have not identified correctly.

Check homework.

Finish triple venn diagram to begin to make notes

comparing elementary school and middle school.
