May 6th

Sorry for not posting sooner! It is always chaotic finishing up "loose ends" at the end of the year.

Students finished two projects last week dealing with direct and inverse variation. One was "Alice and the Increasing Packages." The other was "Decorating for the Dance." Once posted on I-cue, these will count as a quiz grade and test grade respectively.

The remainder of last week and the early part of this week were spent reviewing for the Math 7 final. Students will be given Tuesday and Wednesday to complete this.

We will then start working on some 7/8 skills the remainder of the year in preparation for 8th grade math.

Have a good day.

Math 7/Week of April 21-25

Students this week have been preparing for the CRCT. Students went over the first page of the practice test on Monday. Students then played a Jeopardy review game pertaining to integers. On Tuesday, students went over page 2 of the practice test. Students then did a review relay game in partners pertaining to simplifying expressions, evaluating expressions, and solving equations.

For the remainder of the week, students will continue to review for the math section of the test given this Friday.

Please have your students well rested, fed, and at school on time starting on Wednesday for testing!

Math 7/Week of April 13 - 18

Sorry this is late being posted. We did several activities last week to prepare for CRCT testing. We went over the initial CRCT packet which is recorded on I-parent. Students were given these packets to keep, so they should be in your students' notebooks. On Monday, we reviewed by doing AM Math. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we did practice using the on-line assessment CRCT tool with partners. Winners were rewarded. On Thursday, students went over the Construction Test from before Spring Break and then continued reviewing with a CRCT Practice Test. This practice test was again worked on in class on Friday.

Math 7/April 3rd

Homework was checked from last evening, both angle bisectors and perpendicular bisectors. Students did a CRCT warm-up pertaining to ordered pairs and functions. Students then were guided through the last construction, forming parallel lines. Students are to finish the 8 given problems for parallel lines for homework.

A short quiz will be given tomorrow based on the five constructions we have covered this week.

Only 1 more day until Spring Break!

Have a good evening.

Math 7/April 2nd

Yesterday, students did a CRCT warm-up on multi-step equations. Then, students studied the second Geometry construction, copying a given angle. Students were to copy the 8 given angles on the handout for homework. YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO PURCHASE A COMPASS FOR THIS UNIT!

Today, students did a CRCT warm-up pertaining to proportions and direct/inverse variation. Students then completed to more constructions, constructing angle bisectors and constructing segment perpendicular bisectors. Students have 8 given angles to bisect as well as 4 given segments to bisect for homework if this was not finished in class.

Have a good night.

Only 2 more days until Spring Break!

Math 7/March 31st

Students today did five warm-up problems as review for the CRCT on two-step equations and multi-step equations.

Students then reviewed basic geometry forms: angles, lines, and line segments.

Students then were provided with a model on how to use a compass and a straightedge to copy line segments. Students then performed this construction by copying 9 given segments. This work is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Please see the notes below on coping segments (could not post as we have had sporadic internet issues today). I will attempt to post these tomorrow.

Have a good night.

Math 7/March 25th

Today, students discussed plane figures as they rotate on an axis and move through space. Students discovered that through movement, 2-D figures turned into 3-D solids.

Tomorrow, I will have a sub. Students will work on a review packet for the CRCT. I will be in the building doing in-service work.

Thursday, students will do an activity with playdoh to discover cross sections of given solids. Students are to either bring in a store-bought can of playdoh or may use the homemade recipe below to bring in the at-home kind.

Have a good evening!

Playdoh recipe and directions:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 cup water
food coloring (OPTIONAL)

Boil water, then add all other ingredients. Cook on medium heat, stirring until thick, about 5 minutes.

Sets-up quickly...can mold easily.

Let cool and then place in zip lock bag to bring to class.

Math 7/March 24th

Students went over today the quiz given on direct and inverse variation. I asked for these back from the students after we were finished discussing the content since several students have yet to take the quiz. These should be in your students' folders by Thursday or Friday.

Students also went over the perimeter/area partner activity regarding similar figures.

Students began a discussion on naming geometric solids. Students will begin looking at "slices" or cross sections of these solids in the coming days. Playdoh is needed for this activity, so if your students can bring in one can, that would be super!

Have a good night!

Math 7/March 19th and 20th

Students have been studying yesterday and today direct and indirect/inverse variations in graph, table, equation, and word form. Students completed a worksheet on this last evening (7.4), numbers 1-10. This homework was reviewed in class today. Students have a worksheet tonight for homework titled, Identifying Direct and Inverse Variation. Students are to do problems 1-12 on this which is due tomorrow first thing in class.

Students will have a short quiz on both Wednesday's and Thursday's homework tomorrow. Students will then do DEAR reading for the rest of the period tomorrow.

On Monday, we will begin our unit on cross sections and turning solids in space.

Have a good day!

Please see notes from Wednesday's lesson on direct/indirect variation.

Math 7/March 18

Students today did a CRCT warm-up on evaluating expressions and equations. Students then continued working on the discussion of the relationship of areas of similar figures. Students completed a performance activity comparing perimeters and areas of similar figures. Students have no homework.

Have a good night.
