To All Students!

If by any chance any 8th grader soon to be 9th grader visits my Blog, I miss you!

As you know I travel a lot; this summer I will be visiting family in Florida and Chicago, and  I will attend a wedding in Austin, Texas. I will be making two different Holocaust presentations here in Atlanta and then one in Denver.
Don't forget your summer reading books for high school.
Have a safe and wonderful summer!

Journal Response 8     May 12, 2009

March 25, 1942, Anne writes:
"I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people. And therefore, I am so grateful to God, for giving me this gift of writing, of expressing all that is in me."

Why is it so meaningful for Anne to be able to express herself in hiding?

Journal Response 9     May 13, 2009

"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."

How can she feel this way after being in hiding for over 2 years?

Journal Response 10     May 14, 2009

On Oct. 9, 1942, Anne writes:
"The English radio says they're being gassed. I feel terribly upset."

Look at that recorded date. How is this a premonition of what may occur to her now knowing her fate? Is this an act of unintentionally foreshadowing by Anne? How can this add to her fear to really express something so horrific in her diary?

Journal Response for May 11, 2009 -  do you see any coincidence?

"May 11, 1944"
"You've known for a long time that my greatest wish is to be a journalist and later on, a famous writer. In any case, after the war I'd like to publish a book called The Secret Annex."

Respond - How do you feel about Anne's goal given the fact that she has been in hiding for almost two years when this was written? Express in your response her optimism and hopes for the future.
