5/8

Students were given their "Review for Final Exam" yesterday.  Taking a few minutes each night to practice a couple of problems is the best way to review, however, we will not have a chance to review in class until after the bridge project is finished next week.  I will go over questions from the review next Thursday.

Finals begin Monday, May 19th.  Students in my 3rd and 6th periods will take the Math final with me on Monday (5/19) morning.  See the schedule below:

Monday - Math (AM) and Social Studies (PM)
Tuesday - Language Arts (AM) and Science (PM)
Wednesday - Foreign Language or Reading (AM)

The bridge project is still under construction, and construction is looking good!

5/5 - 5/9

Students are continuing to work in their teams on the bridge building project.  It has been great watching them work together on such a fun and educational project.  They use a variety of math skills, consciously and unconsciously.  They receive daily grades for their individual work and their contribution to their team.  These grades are spread over classwork grades, quiz grades, and test grades.

Eighth grade will have finals in each subject area in two weeks.  The Math final will be the first 8th grade final taken on Monday, May 19th at 9:15 AM.  The review will be distributed later this week and I hope to have time to answer questions after we finish our bridge building project next week.

HOMEWORK:
Be aware that their will be a final exam in all subject areas the last week of school.

5/1-5/2

Today our classes joined with either Ms. Moncrieff's or Mrs. Bowman's classes to begin the bridge building project.  We will be working on this project for 10 school days.  Each day students will receive a grade for their participation/contribution related to their particular responsibilities in their group.   This is a wonderful experience in application of math skills and team work, and a different type of opportunity to earn high grades.

4/28-4/30

We will finish CRCTs tomorrow and move back to our normal schedule on Wednesday.  Students have designed tessellations during our short classes the end of last week and today.
Progress reports will be coming home Wednesday.  We will combine with Ms. Moncrieff's and Mrs. Bowman's classes to begin a bridge building project Wed or Thurs.  It may be fun to frequently ask your son or daughter how their team is doing.

CRCTs start tomorrow.  So many students have worked very diligently though the year, I'm confident they will do well.
Ways to help you do your best:
Get a good night's sleep
Drink lots of water, juices (hydrate that brain!)
Eat a good dinner and a good breakfast
Relax, read directions and questions carefully

3rd & 6th Periods

We will use this week to do "practice CRCTs" together, independently, and in competition.  Practicing skills from all the units in a mixed format helps students to improve their recall of old information and put that information to work.

HOMEWORK:
Finish the CRCT practice started in class.

3rd & 6th Periods

We continued translating word problems into Systems of Equations and solving.  Next week we will review a variety of concepts and problem solving procedures each day to prepare for the CRCTs which start on Wednesday.
