The student reads both informational and fictional texts in a variety of genres and modes of discourse, including technical texts related to various subject areas.

Warm Up
Using Ladders to Success students will work with cause and effect on pg. 54.

Homework
Read a challenging chapter book for 30 minutes.

Activities
Students will read their challenging chapter book for 30 minutes. Students will look for causes and effects in their reading. Three of these causes and their effects will be written on a handout. This handout will be collected for a grade.

Fine tune Emotion Chart.

Activities
Students will continue working on their emotion chart by listing their 10 major events on one axis of a graph.
Students will fill in the other axis with identifying which events were happy and which ones were sad.
Students will determine the degree of happy and the degree of sad for each event and plot this on their graph.
The title of the graph will be the title and the author of the book. This information will be added to the graph.
Students will add a graphic to depict what actually occurred in each major event.
Students will identify the theme, mood, and tone of their Dream Series book.

Review character terms on pg. 60 in Reader’s Journey:
    Static and dynamic character
    flat and round character
    protagonist and antagonist
Students will retell “Cinderella” from the point of view of the prince, Cinderella, and the stepmother.
As a class students will distinguish between the different points of view found in literature using the information found on pg. 62 in Reader’s Journey:
first person
third person
omniscient
limited third person

Students will complete an "Exit Pass" reviewing point of view. This will be collected for a grade.
