Standards

ELA7RC1 The student reads a minimum of 25 grade-level appropriate books or book equivalents (approximately 1,000,000 words) per year from a variety of subject disciplines. The student reads both informational and fictional texts in a variety of genres and modes of discourse, including technical texts related to various subject areas.

ELAW2.4e Respond to literature, justify interpretations using examples from work

Warm Up:

Complete the fourth  Exit Pass for Historical Fiction. This will be collected for a grade.

 

Homework: 

1.   Students will read their chapter book for 30 minutes
2. Students are to begin to search for poems that have been or are meaningful to their lives at the present time.
3. Historical Fiction Project is due on Monday.

Activities:

1. Students will complete  the assignments on their historical fiction This  Historical Fiction Activities Newsletter.  Compare and ContrastThis project will be due on Friday, April 29 at the end of class.

Answer the following questions based on your most recent reading in the historical fiction book:
Describe an interesting character and explain what motivates that character to think and behave as he or she does.
At what point does the character undergo certain changes?
What are the changes that proves this character is a dynamic character?
Are these changes believable?
Why or why not?

Homework:
 Students will read their chapter book for 30 minutes
 Students are to begin to search for poems that have been or are meaningful to their lives at the present time.
Activities:
Read “The Bottom Line” aloud to students. Students will participate in echo reading of this poem. Each student will read a line of this poem aloud as students stand in a circle. Students will discuss how this poem connects with their lives.
1.In table groups students will complete the following chart based on the  poems they just read:

2.   Students are to begin to search for poems that have been or are meaningful to their lives at the present time.

Activities:

1. With a partner students will read the poems”Analysis of Baseball,” “Wind and Water and Stone,” and “I’ve Had This Shirt” on pg. 328-332 in Reader’s Journey.
2. Students will underline sound devices. In the margin students will write notes identifying the sound device they underlined.
3. In table groups students will complete the following chart based on the  poems they just read:

1.   Students will read their chapter book for 30 minutes
2. Students are to begin to search for poems that have been or are meaningful to their lives at the present time.

Activities:

1. As students come into the classroom, students will put their books by the wall and not sit down right away. Students will walk around, read the poems (which will be placed around the room on the tables), and try to sit at a place that has a poem that they liked or reminded them of their lives. Students will read their poem aloud to the students at their table and share why they chose to sit at that desk with that particular poem.
2. Students will review sound devices on pg. 326 in Reader’s Journey.

What is a choice/decision your protagonist has had to make?

What is the consequence of the choice made?

 

1.  Students will read their historical fiction book and complete the first  Exit Pass for Historical Fiction for this book. This will be collected for a grade.
2. Students will update the number of books read so far this year.
