4-16-08 test day for chapter 16

Today we had a test on chapter 16.1 and 16.3. As I have gone through many tests the vast majority of you performed fantastically. I am going to try to have them all graded by your class period tomorrow. For the beginning of the period students were given the option of reviewing their study guides, notes and the text for twenty minutes instead of the typical DEAR. After that we started the test. Thanks yall for studying so hard and you made me feel so happy when I started to review the results. Keep this up just a little longer. I am also going to have make up quizzes and tests, and to be finished tests tomorrow. I'll hand out your individual progress reports so we can sort out who needs to do what and which students are the "no name" quizzes or tests. No homework, hand loose tonight as far as science is concerned. See you tomorrow, Mr. Woolsey.

4-15-08 outside energy in the atmosphere and winds

Today we had a fantastic day outside where we finally were able to discuss and experience the bending effect of different prisms and how they can cause visible light to stretch and bend to make all the range of the colors of visible light. We then reviewed chapter 16.1 and 16.3 outside by playing a tennis ball question and reward game. We finished the day by starting the weather report mini homework project. Homework is to study for the chapter 16.1 and 16.3 test tomorrow. See you all tomorrow, Mr. Woolsey.

4-14-08 Chapter 16.1 and 16.3 energy in the atmosphere and winds

Today we started with a review for chapter 16.3 with a study guide, then we did a white board warmup exercise to see how well many of these common weather terms were familiar. Next I handed out an example of a complete weather report map and another example of the visible and non visible electromagnetic spectrum. Homework for tonight for all periods other than 3rd is to start the mini weather report homework activity due tomorrow by the end of class at the latest. For 3rd period the homework is due Wednesday. We will have a test on chapter 16.1 and 16.3 Wednesday. See you all tomorrow. P.S. I have updated many grades and hope to be caught up by tonight on the assessments that were not complete before spring break.

3-2-08

Today period 3 took the chapter 15 test. The rest of the period was spent DEARing. In periods 4,5,6 we started reviewing images about the electromagnetic spectrum of which visible light is only a small fraction in terms of wave length. We discussed why the sky is blue, why lakes and oceans are blue as well. Absorption, reflection, and scattering of this radiation is the reason for the color blue. Homework is chapter 16.1 in the workbook. See you all tomorrow, Mr. Woolsey.
