7th Grade Health Update

We will be having a nutrition quiz on Friday 3/20. Study!  Also we will have our first folder check tomorrow. Also, any student who hasn't returned the syllabus and Human Growth permission letter signed by a parent needs to do so immediately. We will be starting that unit monday and you must have  a signed form to participate.

Mr Graber's PE Classes tackle Pickleball

We have been practicing serving, forehand, and backhand.  We will begin to master the rules and scoring system on Friday and play practice games.  Our "regular season" will begin late next week with the championship tournaments taking place the following week.

Team Handball unit in progress

We are learning about the exciting sport of Team Handball in Class. So far we have learned overhand and wrist passing, Jump shots and set shots as well as basic rules regarding dribbling and steps.


Fitness Class finishing Pre-tests

We are finishing pre-tests and are ready to begin our circuit training workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We are prepared w/ exercise weights and seat adjustments for all machines.

CPR unit in progress

We will be completing a unit in American Red Cross Adult CPR. Students can become certified by passing two written tests w/ an average of 80% or higher and demonstrating proficiency on 4 skills checkoffs. for the next 5 days we will be doing skills practice. Please adhere to the following guidelines for skills practice:

No dresses or skirts
No food, gum, candy or drinks around CPR Mannequins
No lipstick, lipgloss, or lipbalm.
Dress in comfortable clothing.

Health class begins Study of Fast food nutrition

We have begun our study of Fast food nutrition by reviewing the 6 classes of nutrients that humans need to survive and dietary guidelines. We are also beginning the nutritional analysis of fast food by viewing the Morgan Spurlock documentary "Super Size Me" where he eats McDonald's for every meal of the day for a month in order to see what effect if any it would have on his health.

Fitness Class Forms go home

The Syllabus and Medical release forms have been distributed to students. These forms should be signed and returned no later than Friday. NO student may use any of the fitness lab equipment until these forms are returned.Img_0322

Tennis/Football units a big success

Our 6th graders had a great time in these two units. We focused on the skills of forehand, backhand, ready position for tennis and passing, catching, dodging, faking, and punting. Students in Mr. Graber's 6th grade for the 2nd quarter will be doing units of Team Handball, Softball, and Racquetball.Img_1248_3

Field Day T-shirt Design Contest underway

The Mabry PE department is conducting an T-shirt Art design contest for this year's Field Day T-shirt. Entries must be received by 10/24 and must be drawn on plain 8.5" x 11" unlined paper and be black and white. Suggested themes are 30th anniversary or STARS. The contest winner will have their artwork screened on all Mabry field day shirts, receive a free Field day shirt, and get to autograph a shirt to place in our T-shirt wall of Fame.
