Standards Of Conduct

Unternehmen-Compliance-LupeAt its June 10, 2009 work session the Cobb County Board of Education unanimously approved holding students who participate in extracurricular activities and sports to higher behavior standards. Administrative Rule JICDD amends prior rules with more stringent consequences for infractions involving alcohol or drug use, tobacco use or charges of criminal activity. Effective immediately, the updated guidelines clarify the school district’s expectations for student behavior outside of the classroom and are applicable 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, on or off school grounds.

Extracurricular activities and athletics are important parts of school culture in the Cobb County School District, supplementing the curriculum and allowing students to connect and learn outside of the classroom. Participation in interscholastic/extracurricular activities in Cobb County schools is a privilege.  The privileges of participation come with the expectations that students be ambassadors for their schools and the Cobb County School District, on and off the stage or field.

Students participating in these activities are considered to be school leaders. They are role models who represent their school and more importantly, depict its character. With leadership comes additional responsibility and student participants must adhere to high standards of conduct. When students violate these high standards, the District may withdraw the privilege to participate in interscholastic/extracurricular activities.

Consequences remain in place for other offenses that reflect negatively on a school, activity or program, including inappropriate Internet activities that are brought to the attention of school administrators. In addition, a sponsor or head coach in conjunction with school administration will determine penalties for hazing, missing practice or rehearsals without authorization, truancy, unsportsmanlike conduct, violation of curfew or any act that results in discipline by school administration.

Sponsors and coaches will provide written notification of the new Administrative Rule JICDD to all participants in extracurricular activities at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year or during preseason activities this summer. Except as specifically provided by the rule, the behavioral expectations and prohibitions apply kindergarten through 12th grade, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, in and out of the specific extracurricular season, and on or off school grounds.

The full text of Administrative Rule JICDD is available on the District Web site at www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/adminrules.

Orchestra Spring Trip 09

IMG_9453

Sorry for the delay.

We had an AWESOME! Spring Trip.  I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.  I was really proud of the performance and the conduct of the group while we were away.  Everything went as it should. Thanks to the great group of chaperones who helped make it all happen so smoothly and safely.

After an 8 hour bus ride on Thursday we hit the hotel and immediately changed into our concert clothes, then back on the bus to Epcot where we performed at 6:15pm at the Epcot Future World Stage West. I thought the performance went very well.  In particular the way the Disney Technicians mic’ed the group enhanced the sound both for the audience and the group on stage. After the performance our hostess, Jacqueline let us enter the park at the World Showcase Italy exhibit for a group picture.

This is what my group did on the 2 remaining days.

Cello Players - Check This Out!

Mrs. Doemel received this recently.

Dear Ms. Doemel,
My name is Jamie Fiste and I teach cello at Central Michigan University.  I just wanted to bring to your attention a web site that I put up at www.celloprofessor.com. It is a free site devoted to cello technique and cello pedagogy complete with videos and audio.  It is a new site so I will be adding much more information and videos as time goes on.

I was wondering if I could persuade you to link to my site from the Lassiter High School Orchestra website? Perhaps your cello students would find it interesting.

Thank you for your time!

Kind Regards,
Jamie Fiste

7th and 8th Grade Orchestra Performances

A Letter containing the following information, with field trip form attached, went home with 7th and 8th grade students on February 5th.

Mabry Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestra Students will participate in the Cobb Orchestra Directors Association (CODA) Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE, formerly called “festival”) at Dickerson Middle School.  The Seventh Grade Orchestra will perform on Monday, February 23rdth at 6:30 p.m. and the Eighth Grade Orchestra will perform on Tuesday, February 24th at 7:10 p.m.  A map to Dickerson and a Cobb County Field Trip Permission form are attached.

This is an important performance and all students are expected to participate.  The performances are open to the public and family and friends are encouraged to attend.

We will have a pizza dinner at Mabry before we leave for Dickerson.  Dinner will be provided with funds from our fall fundraiser.  We will leave Mabry after dinner and travel by school bus to Dickerson.

IMPORTANT  There is no return transportation provided, so we request you arrange pick-up from Dickerson at 8:00 P.M.  Most of you will be at the performance and will provide transportation home for your child.

IMPORTANT  Students using school-owned instruments must return the instrument to Mabry by 9:00 A.M. the next morning.

Students will bring their concert uniform with them to school on festival morning. Concert dress for boys is solid black slacks, long sleeve white dress shirt with long tie, black socks and black or dark dress shoes. Concert dress for the girls is a long (ankle length or longer) solid black skirt or black slacks, long sleeve white dress shirt and black or dark dress shoes.  Please adhere to these guidelines closely. This is an important performance for these young musicians and they should dress appropriately.

IMPORTANT  The orchestras will each have an extra rehearsal. This will be the only time to combine the 2 classes. The 8th grade orchestra will rehearse Friday morning, February 20th from 8:00 until 9:00.  The 7th grade orchestra will rehearse Thursday morning, February 19th from 8:00 until 9:00. This will be the only time to combine the 2 classes.

As always, we need parent chaperones for this field trip.  If you can help with dinner, ride the bus to Dickerson with us, or provide transportation for string basses and cellos please contact me.

Your children and the Cobb County Orchestra Directors put tremendous effort into producing this festival.  Students should be practicing diligently on their festival music.  We hope you will come out and support them at this exciting event.  We look forward to seeing you at our 14th annual C.O.D.A. Festival.

Please contact me at Chris.Doemel@Cobbk12.org with questions.
